Open Arms of Minnesota

December 31, 2023 – Open Arms of Minnesota

In 2023 we took a couple trips back to visit our friends at Open Arms of Minnesota to prep and pack roughly 1,500 nutritious meals for to be delivered to people with critical illnesses and their families.  As always, we truly enjoyed our time with this wonderful organization and their amazing team!  Open Arms prepared and delivered over 1 million meals during their most recent fiscal year. And since we last volunteered with them a few years ago, they added a second location in St. Paul and created 5 urban farms to convert vacant lots into urban farms that provide food to their kitchens as well as a CSA program! Visit their website for more information on their impact and incredible outcomes for the Twin Cities community.

Polar Plunge - Special Olympics MN

March 03, 2023 – Polar Plunge - Special Olympics MN

It was a beautiful day in March to take part in Minnesota’s 2023 Special Olympics Polar Plunge at Lake Nokomis. This was Team Cahill’s fourth year plunging for Special Olympics, and it was our largest group of plungers yet!  Our group was diverse in jumping techniques – the traditional cannon ball, a few elegant swan dives, painful belly flops, and the regretting-this-decision plummet – but we came together for the common good and in support of Special Olympics’ inspiring cause.

Special Olympics programs help to promote inclusion in sports, games and competition, health, youth and schools, and leadership. Since 1968, the group has expanded its resources to all corners of the world with leadership activities, health resources, school and extracurricular activities, sporting events, games and competitions. The Polar Plunge is one of many fundraising opportunities organized by this group and remains a favorite for Team Cahill.

The Food Group - Supply Packing

November 14, 2022 – The Food Group - Supply Packing

Give us a timer, a good cause and a little friendly competition and you have yourself a successful volunteer event with our friends at The Food Group. With the holidays just around the corner, Team Cahill wanted to show our appreciation to Minnesota communities and organizations like The Food Group. We spent an evening packing 550 toiletry supply bags for the community’s supply shelves. Donations and volunteering are plentiful during the holiday season, but The Food Group has made sure to maintain year-round volunteer resources.  Volunteers donated nearly 11,000 hours of time to the Food Group in 2021, and every hour counts.

Grow, pick, pack, build, farm, share, give and care with Team Cahill! We can’t wait to see how many hours we can spend with The Food Group in 2023.

The Food Group - Apple Gleaning

August 25, 2022 – The Food Group - Apple Gleaning

Team Cahill and The Food Group took to the great outdoors for a volunteer expedition at a local grower’s apple orchard in Western Minnesota. A small team of volunteers gleaned the many apple trees at Pelican Grove Orchard. Hundreds of growers across the Minnesota and Wisconsin region donate portions of their land and produce supply to The Food Group every year. This is all part of The Food Group’s efforts to bring fresh, natural foods to the tables of those who may have difficulty sourcing fresh, affordable fruits and vegetables on their own. After only three hours of gleaning with this great group of people, Team Cahill and friends picked enough quality apples to feed nearly 150 people!

Big River Farms is one of The Food Group’s larger operations where they teach farming education courses. It gives local farmers the resources needed to hone and maintain their skills so they too can better provide for their own communities.

“The Food Group believes in food equity. They believe in culturally specific foods. They believe in meeting people where they are at. And most of all, they believe in dignity.” – The Food Group volunteer

Polar Plunge - Special Olympics MN

March 04, 2022 – Polar Plunge - Special Olympics MN

It’s official…third time’s the charm for Team Cahill at the 2022 Special Olympics Polar Plunge in Minneapolis, MN. Our group of plungers grows ever so slightly each year. Some take the plunge to say they’ve done it while others jump to feel an icy adrenaline rush. No matter the reason, the motivation is always the same – to spread awareness for Special Olympics. The Polar Plunge is a special event for friends, families, coworkers and businesses to come together and showcase Special Olympics’ “The Revolution is Inclusion” movement. Their programs help to promote inclusion in sports, games and competition, health, youth and schools, and leadership. They host so many exciting events year-round and worldwide.

Join Team Cahill in the movement and showcase how we do it in Minnesota!

The Food Group

December 09, 2021 – The Food Group

The Food Group opened its doors to Team Cahill this winter and gave us a glimpse into the ways their program supports more than 32 counties in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. Our team packed and organized bags of food that would later be delivered to various food shelves in the supported counties.

The Food Group has been “fighting hunger and nourishing communities” for over 40 years and continues to expand their outreach programs. This nonprofit currently provides mobile market services, food shelf and meal program support, and a farmer education program for farmers who have historically been challenged with underrepresentation in their industry. They believe in the value that, “Food is a basic right for all individuals,” and it’s amazing to see such passion reflected in the work they do every day. Team Cahill is honored to have a seat at their community table.

Minneapolis Gardening Projects

October 05, 2021 – Minneapolis Gardening Projects

After many months of hibernation and social-distancing, Team Cahill decided to ramp up its Community Investment Program again with a few small-group outdoor excursions at local Minneapolis parks in October. Gluek Park in North Minneapolis, site of the former brewery and mansion, was a great place for our team to start. Plants were trimmed, raked and nested for hibernation and our fall spirits were high. Another small team assisted site managers at Lovell Square Park with building and planting a new plot in the Community Garden. Team Cahill was grateful for the opportunities to support its local natural attractions and the surrounding community members.

Polar Plunge - Special Olympics MN

February 28, 2020 – Polar Plunge - Special Olympics MN

Amid a Minnesota snowstorm, Team Cahill’s winter warriors suited up for another icy plunge to support a heroic cause. The Special Olympics held its annual Polar Plunge at Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis, where thousands of people over three days jumped into the waters to show their support. The Polar Plunge is the most well-known event of the North American Special Olympics community, spanning to all 50 states in the U.S. with varying degrees of “polar”. What many people may not realize is the Special Olympics Movement is a global outreach program that began as early as 1968. It has an overwhelming history of community, sportsmanship, inclusion, health and fun. Take a look at the organization’s history and see just how much the Special Olympics has grown and empowered its community.

It’s no wonder Team Cahill keeps taking the plunge! Let’s see if the frigid temperatures will keep us away next year.

Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery

February 06, 2020 – Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery

Team Cahill started 2020 with our 6th Annual Cahill Cup. It was an evening in which our team and family members let their competitive colors fly in a grueling game of trivia. As part of our Community Investment Program, Cahill Financial Advisors makes a donation to the winning team’s local charity or cause of choice. This year, the triumphant team selected the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery to receive the donation!

The Nursery opened to the community in 1983 and was the first of its kind in Minnesota, not to mention one of only 20 facilities in the nation at that time. The Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery is committed to ending child abuse and neglect by providing temporary housing and meals for children, home visits, and family advocacy programs. To this day, it answers 4,000 crisis calls annually and houses up to 20 children each night.

There are many opportunities to support this facility! Several members of the firm visited the Nursery in early February to serve a lunch to the children and staff members. The team planned a menu, grocery shopped and prepared the meal for some very happy bellies.

Simpson Housing Services

September 23, 2019 – Simpson Housing Services

It was a busy night in the kitchen and dining hall at Simpson Housing Services in Minneapolis, MN. Team Cahill partnered with the Simpson Housing community to provide, prepare and serve a meal for the residents.

What first began as an emergency overnight shelter, has now turned into a leading nonprofit that provides supplies, meals, beds and emergency shelter to community members in need. Simpson Housing Services is a nonprofit that is also involved in community-wide outreach programs to share education and awareness about safe and affordable housing, homelessness and poverty, and advocacy for healthy living conditions. Team Cahill met some incredible people at the Simpson House and was reminded the impact of a simple act of kindness.

Special guest Jarrett Culver from the Minnesota Timberwolves also joined the community and assisted us in serving meals to residents.

Gardening at Lyndale Park

August 19, 2019 – Gardening at Lyndale Park

We brought our green thumbs to work this year at the Lyndale Park Annual-Perennial Garden, near Lake Harriet. Team Cahill partnered with Minneapolis Parks & Recreation to help freshen up the gardens and paths in the Annual-Perennial Garden, one of four major gardens and a small section of the 61-acre park in the south Minneapolis area. Hundreds of workers and volunteers from the University of Minnesota and Minneapolis neighborhoods keep these gardens maintained and beautiful, year-round.

River Clean-up - Conservation Corps

August 01, 2019 – River Clean-up - Conservation Corps

With our galoshes in stow and bug spray at the ready, Team Cahill joined a troupe of nearly 100 volunteers for the 28th Annual Conservation Corps Mississippi River Clean-up on August 1, 2019. As an organization, Conservation Corps is dedicated to supporting the initiatives to clean up lakes, rivers, prairies, cities, and local preservations across the nation. There is a dedicated team of individuals responsible for the Minnesota and Iowa territory, and they aided the volunteers with the river clean up. This year, we skirted the shores near Pig’s Eye Island and, together, helped to pick up 2,160 pounds (1.08 tons) of trash – everything from tires, Styrofoam and plastic bags to propane tanks, bunny rabbit knick-knacks and rusty paint cans. The work was messy but the Mississippi River is looking sharper than ever!

Polar Plunge - Special Olympics MN

March 01, 2019 – Polar Plunge - Special Olympics MN

Team Cahill was at it again with the Cahill Community Investment Program, causing a commotion in the frigid waters of Lake Bde Maka Ska, where our team participated in the 2019 Minneapolis Polar Plunge! The Polar Plunge is an annual event that raises money for Special Olympics Minnesota. Special Olympics provides health, leadership, and athletic opportunities for the intellectually disabled and is a chance for them to grow and lead in their own communities year-round. This year Minneapolis raised over $1.4 million for the cause.

Our toes were frozen and our lips purple, but our hearts were full of the fun and compassion we picked up along the way. It’s safe to say that Cahill will add this cause to our book of events to support in the future, come snow or cold temperatures!

Leonardo's Basement

January 15, 2019 – Leonardo's Basement

The Cahill Team celebrated the New Year with our Fifth annual Cahill Cup tournament!  Every year we break into teams and compete for the Grand Prize, which is a cash donation to our winning team’s charity of choice. After a night of fun trivia competition, the winning team received the Cahill Cup, but most importantly selected Leonardo’s Basement to receive their cash prize.  The mission of this organization is to provide a one-of-a-kind learning environment for “kids” of all ages to help design and build from their imaginations so they can reinvent the world around them.  Inventive workshop classes are held to help people of all backgrounds and ages apply the powers of imagination, curiosity, problem solving, and risk taking to create hands-on art, engineering, and technology projects.

Open Arms of Minnesota

October 02, 2018 – Open Arms of Minnesota

Our latest Cahill Community Investment Program event was at Open Arms of Minnesota, which is a nonprofit that delivers free, nutritious meals to people with life-threatening illnesses.  This year they will provide 600,000 meals thanks to the help of 7,300 volunteers!  Our team packed a variety of food items such as soup, bread, and fully assembled meals that will provide nutrition and support to families struggling with illness and disease.  We truly enjoyed our time with this wonderful organization!

The Jeremiah Program Fundraiser

May 24, 2018 – The Jeremiah Program Fundraiser

We dedicate time each year to build community amongst our own, and with charitable partners whose missions align with our values. This year, we hosted such an event at the American Swedish Institute, where our guests joined us for an exclusive evening at the historic Minneapolis landmark and museum. The garden courtyard and surrounding manor and modern museum wing gave us a fun setting to kick off summer with some of our Cahill friends and family with food, drinks, a little interesting local history, and some conversation-sparking art. Together with our greater Cahill friends and family, we raised over $10,000 for The Jeremiah Program! Active in six cities across the state, and the country, The Jeremiah Program works to stop the cycle of poverty and dependence on public assistance, two generations at a time. The Jeremiah model draws on five core pillars: career-track education for mothers, quality early childhood education, safe and affordable housing for families, life-skills training, and a supportive community.

Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

May 07, 2018 – Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

Just 3 weeks after we braved a snow storm at our last volunteer outing, Team Cahill got together under very different weather conditions to help renovate a garden at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum to benefit their children’s Pea Pods program!  Volunteering at this magical place provides support for conservation, research, and education programs. Happy Spring from #teamcahill

Fraser Walk for Autism 2018

April 15, 2018 – Fraser Walk for Autism 2018

Despite the snowy morning, Team Cahill had a wonderful time joining over 1,000 fellow autism supporters and families at the Fraser Walk for Autism! Our firm was a corporate sponsor, and our individual Team Cahill members also raised funds, coming in as #6 team for fundraising! We are proud to support this organization - go Team Cahill!

Breaking Free

January 16, 2018 – Breaking Free

The Fourth Annual Cahill Cup brought out some serious team competition in our family!  Every year we break into teams and compete for the Grand Prize, which is a cash donation to our winning team’s charity of choice.  After a night of fun and games, we learned that some of us are gifted with impressive and creative team Pictionary skills!

Our winning team chose Breaking Free as the charity of their choice.  Breaking Free is a local anti-trafficking advocacy group who supports women and girls who are in need of services and support as they attempt to escape systems of sexual exploitation. They offer advocacy, direct services, housing, and education. Breaking Free is currently partnering with several other local organizations to provide street outreach, drop-in centers, and victim advocacy during the Super Bowl. We are proud to support the work they do!

Second Harvest Heartland

June 27, 2017 – Second Harvest Heartland

The Cahill Team is always happy to visit Second Harvest Heartland, one of the nation’s largest, most efficient and most innovative food banks. They have created a sustainable support system that provides access to food for members of our community. Helping hungry neighbors find their next meal—so they can strive at work, in the classroom and in their communities—is what drives Second Harvest Heartland, its partners and supporters. We enjoyed the hands-on experience of packing 5,962 pounds of potatoes to be distributed to families who rely on their services.  That’s a lot of potatoes!

People Serving People

March 13, 2017 – People Serving People

In March, we gathered together at our office one evening to sew cozy blankets and host a diaper drive for a local area shelter provider, People Serving People.

People Serving People helps homeless and at-risk children and their families manage crisis situations and build a strong foundation for their long-term success. They are the largest and most comprehensive, family-focused homeless shelter in Minnesota.

The Cahill family certainly enjoyed the opportunity to come together for children in our community.

December 06, 2016 – Schools Near and Far

Every year in December, Team Cahill and our families gather together to duke it out in a trivia challenge, and compete for our favorite charity.   This year, our winners decided to split their donation between two worthy charities that are dear to their hearts.

The first recipient was Countryside Against Hunger, which is a program lead by the Edina public schools,  and is service-learning project at Countryside Elementary school.  Students, families, and community members pack food for people who are hungry around the world.  Learn more about the program here.

Our second recipient was the World Riders Foundation, a non-profit organization building and sustaining schools for orphans in developing countries. Learn more about WRF and about the great work they are doing here.

Ronald McDonald House

September 06, 2016 – Ronald McDonald House

Team Cahill donned red aprons and visited the Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota’s Ronald McDonald House in Minneapolis. We enjoyed the opportunity to provide a home-cooked dinner to the families of children currently receiving care. The House is located on the third floor of the hospital and is the largest in-hospital facility in the Upper Midwest. Serving families with children receiving treatment in intensive care units, the House offers parents a place to rest and regroup without having to leave the hospital.

The Fraser Walk for Autism

April 16, 2016 – The Fraser Walk for Autism

Team Cahill joined nearly 3,000 individuals who went to the Mall of America on April 16th for the Fraser Walk for Autism. The outpouring of community support raised more than $125,000 for Fraser autism services! It was so fun to have our tiniestTeam Cahill teammates along for the walk – and to support this great organization.

March 01, 2016 – Feed My Starving Children

In March, Team Cahill joined other groups of volunteers at Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) to prepare meal packs for international shipment to children in need. At FMSC, volunteers hand-pack meals specially formulated for malnourished children, and then send them to partners around the world where they’re used to operate orphanages, schools, clinics and feeding programs to break the cycle of poverty. FMSC food has reached nearly 70 countries in their history.

December 01, 2015 – Tapestry

Every year, our staff and advisors host the Cahill Cup, in which an evening of (mostly) friendly competition results in the team captain selecting a charitable beneficiary to receive the winning team’s prize money. This year the recipient of the Cahill Cup’s top prize was Tapestry Family Resource Center. Tapestry provides practical solutions for families in crisis by providing free prenatal medical care, therapy, life coaching, parenting and life skills education, vocational training & employment readiness classes as well as meeting foundational needs such as clothing, food and shelter. Each year Tapestry serves approximately 4000 women and nearly 7000 children.

CureSearch for Children's Cancer

October 04, 2015 – CureSearch for Children's Cancer

Team Cahill joined hundreds of childhood cancer fighters and survivors, their families, and other allied community members in the fight to end childhood cancer by  raising over $3,500 on behalf of CureSearch for Children’s Cancer.  CureSearch is a national non-profit foundation that accelerates the search for cures for children’s cancer by driving innovation, transcending research barriers and solving the field’s most challenging problems.

“We fight every day to make treatments and cures possible for the 43 children diagnosed with cancer each day. We do this in three ways:

  • We accelerate the search for cures by posing essential challenges to scientists and inviting teams to overco me them with innovative research approaches.
  • We transcend the barriers of a broken research system by establishing new pathways to end children’s cancer.
  • We provide resources and education, so no child faces a cancer diagnosis without a fully equipped support team.”

Please join us in supporting this incredible organization.

September 01, 2015 – The Jeremiah Program

We were excited to return to the Jeremiah Program and spend an evening preparing dinner for these hard-working students and their children. We had the opportunity to talk to the young women in the program and hear about their experiences. The Jeremiah Program prepares “determined single mothers to succeed in the workforce, readies their children to succeed in school, and reduces generational dependence on public assistance.”

December 02, 2014 – Urban Ventures

In December of 2014 we held our first annual “Cahill Cup” – a friendly competition which brought our team together to raise money for our favorite charities. The winning team was given funds to donate to an organization of their choosing. Diane Park lead her team to Cahill Cup victory, raising funds for an organization which she introduced us to, Urban Ventures. UV directs twelve transformational programs in the heart of South Minneapolis, all designed to assist individuals and families in breaking the cycle of generational poverty. UV recognizes that urban poverty is complex, so their holistic programs focus on placing individuals in livable-wage jobs, lowering the achievement gap for students, strengthening families and addressing the challenges of food-insecurity and poor nutrition.

Meals For Minds

October 09, 2014 – Meals For Minds

Meals for Minds is a program through Second Harvest Heartland which distributes food directly to children in an effort to eliminate childhood hunger. As volunteers at a Meals for Minds event, we assisted in coordinating a monthly grocery distribution directly to families through a mobile food pantry at a local elementary school in Minneapolis. It was a wonderful opportunity to interact with our community, and to see first hand the impact of volunteerism.

The Fraser Walk for Autism

April 12, 2014 – The Fraser Walk for Autism

For the Fraser Walk for Autism, “Team Cahill” came together to for a fun morning of walking and family events at the Mall of America.  We were proud to be declared the top corporate fundraising team, and to support the outreach efforts of Fraser as they seek to provide services to families across the state of Minnesota.

Pillsbury United Communities

November 26, 2013 – Pillsbury United Communities

Pillsbury United Communities is a network of many “community centers, innovative programs and social enterprises that works with isolated and underestimated populations to increase choice, inspire change, and strengthen connections across Minneapolis.” They helped us distribute the Thanksgiving baskets we assembled to ten families that participate in their programs. We look forward to future partnerships with this great organization!

Second Harvest Heartland

March 07, 2012 – Second Harvest Heartland

Second Harvest Heartland is the Upper Midwest’s largest hunger relief organization with a goal to, ”not only to help our hungry neighbors today, but to provide the means for everyone to be fed tomorrow.” Our team spent a few hours tackling massive boxes of bulk rice, dividing it into family-sized portions for distribution.
